Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Recognition Course
The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Recognition Course teaches the student how to identify explosives and explosive devices at security checkpoints. World-wide terrorist activities have increased dramatically. One of the terrorists’ weapon of choice is the IED. Detecting IEDs is a critical part of any security screener’s responsibility. Training is the most important element in effective detection of IEDs. This training course examines the dangers posed by Improvised Explosive Devices, provides essential instruction on basic IED components, and identifies how the screening process aids in the detection of IEDs and IED components.
Introduction to IEDs - Teaches the characteristics and destructive nature of explosive devices. The student will learn about historical events that demonstrate the need for IED detection.
Components of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) - Teaches the student about the four main components of an explosive device, what the components look like, and how each component can be combined to create an IED.
Detection of an IED - Teaches the student about several screening methodologies used to detect IEDs. Each student will also learn tips on how to detect IEDs.
X-ray Detection of IEDs - Provides the student with an opportunity to examine cabinet X-ray and backscatter X-ray images of IEDs.
